The Wandering Isles: Session 9 - Recap
The latest session of The Wandering Isles unfolded with a flurry of dramatic events that tested the resolve and unity of our adventurers. The session opened with a sombre reminder from Hatsu about the importance of traditions, setting a tone of gravity for the events to follow.
Disaster struck when Boreal unleashed a devastating fireball, injuring many bystanders. Amidst the chaos, Weslyn displayed quick thinking and heroics by teleporting to tackle Boreal from the sky. As Dash dragged Eos to safety, he and Weslyn struggled to subdue the now volatile Boreal. Tensions escalated when Weslyn's headbutt to Boreal provoked an unexpected reaction from Hatsu, leading to Weslyn being knocked unconscious. In the heat of the moment, Amaedrianna threw a dagger at Hatsu, who retaliated but missed, and was subsequently knocked unconscious by Slate.
In the aftermath, the group attended to their wounds, and both Hatsu and Boreal were confined to cells. As Slate retreated from the cells in a panic, Amaedrianna sought to understand his distress, while Eos checked on her horse, Duckie, offering a moment of peace amid the turmoil. The victims bore the marks of the ordeal—covered in dirt and burns, the severity of the incident was painfully evident.
Later, Weslyn summoned food for Dash in a gesture of camaraderie and opened up about the darkening of his tattoos and the ominous implications for his dreams. He shared visions of a witch who frequents his dreams and discussed an allegorical dream of being a cloud, blocking warmth for others. Feeling the swift passage of time and increasing danger, Weslyn expressed a desire to sleep in the woods for safety.
Meanwhile, Dash discovered Lysa's absence and reconvened with the group in the prison to discuss the future. Slate and Amaedrianna voiced their concerns about their safety, threatening to leave the school if Hatsu and Boreal remained. Eos revealed a harrowing similarity to Boreal’s incident, hinting at deeper, darker forces at play.
Weslyn sought solace in the woods, where a simple bee landing on his knee offered a stark contrast to the day’s earlier violence, a reminder of the world's quiet natural beauty. The group resolved to hold a court to determine the fate of Hatsu and possibly the future direction of the school.
In a poignant moment, Dash and Amaedrianna had a heart-to-heart about the biases of the Crisis Response Unit towards magic users, drawing parallels with their current predicaments. Amaedrianna delved deeper into the lore of the crimson moon and the infamous tale of The Unnamed One, enriching her understanding of the magical crisis.
As the session closed, Slate prepared to leave the school, Hatsu shared a meaningful moment with Chicken, and the community braced for the upcoming trial that would decide much more than just Hatsu’s fate—it could seal the destiny of the entire school.
Next week, the trial begins. It's not just about determining the guilt or innocence of one; it's about setting the course for the future of Maleficum's Arcanum of Magic & Might. How will justice be served in a place so steeped in mystery and magic? Only time will tell.
