The Wandering Isles: Session 19 - Recap
In the latest adventure of "The Wandering Isles," the story takes our heroes to the frigid lands of Penzance, a new chapter that sees the group divided and working towards a common cause. Two teams set off for Penzance, each bringing with them their unique skills and determination to help their new companion,[Adrian Voss, also known as Gorebound, find a safe place to call home after their harrowing encounter with him.
The first group, consisting of Dash Heidmann, Hatsu Toshitsugu, Slate, Ayame Fujiwara, and Gorebound himself, arrives first. Upon arrival, Dash immediately seeks out a local tailor, Maelis Farren, to purchase warmer clothes for the icy climate. Meanwhile, Hatsu takes a more direct approach to their task by seeking out [[Dimthel Kromdek]], the mayor of Penzance, to request assistance in finding a safe place for Gorebound. The mayor, a wise and perceptive leader, introduces Hatsu to Krechor Penzance, an ancient golden-scaled draconic human who disguises himself as an elderly blacksmith.
Krechor, sensing the sincerity in Hatsu’s plea, decides to reveal his true form and offers his aid in their monumental task. During this encounter, Hatsu also meets Soot, a small draconic creature with a curious personality who takes an immediate liking to the group. Together, they discuss the possibility of building a new home for Gorebound, believing it might be the best way for him to start anew.
Shortly after, the second group arrives in Penzance: Amaedrianna Blüdfist, Eos, Weslyn Theiwyse (Chicken), and Lysa Sablewood. Following in Dash’s footsteps, they, too, visit the tailor for warmer clothing but manage to strike a far better deal than Dash had earlier. With new clothes and renewed energy, they join the first group to begin constructing a home for Gorebound.
The construction effort becomes a true team endeavour, with each member contributing in their own unique way. Dash and Lysa take on the role of coordinators, ensuring the project stays on track. Amaedrianna focuses on repairing and reinforcing the structure, while Eos lends her artistic vision to the design of the building. Hatsu and Ayame add the final touches with remarkable precision and teamwork, while Weslyn diligently checks Dash’s work to ensure it meets their standards. The result is a well-built home, a fresh start for Gorebound.
As night falls, the group gathers at the local tavern for one final evening of camaraderie before they figure out how to return to the Arcanum. During the night, Weslyn decides to visit Gorebound and brings him some food. In gratitude, Gorebound gifts Weslyn a deer to cook and eat, a gesture of friendship and trust. However, Weslyn, still exhausted from their earlier efforts, struggles to drag the deer back to the tavern and is eventually aided by Ayame and Hatsu.
To lift their spirits, Amaedrianna, Weslyn, and Dash engage in a lively card game. Weslyn wins the first round, but with stakes raised for the final game, it is Amaedrianna who triumphs, winning 100 gold pieces. In a moment of generosity, she gifts 20 gold pieces to Weslyn to help Gorebound get started with his new life. The group shares a few laughs, and Weslyn asks Amaedrianna to promise to move her home away from his. The moment is lighthearted, but soon, the tone shifts.
As they leave the tavern, Weslyn suddenly falls to his knees, and before the group can reach him, he collapses completely. His faithful fox, Chicken, nudges his lifeless form, causing a wave of shock and despair to ripple through the group. Desperately, they attempt to help him, but their efforts seem in vain. Determined to honour his last wish, they set out to complete his final mission: delivering the gold to Gorebound.
Hatsu and Ayame, filled with urgency and concern, decide to seek help to bring Weslyn back to the Arcanum. They encounter Slate, who is already speaking with the mayor, and as they relay the news, the mayor rushes to gather the necessary aid. The session ends with the group standing on the brink of uncertainty, their path forward now shadowed by the loss of their friend and the challenges that still lie ahead.
