Reports are in that Valve’s boss, Gabe Newell, confirmed that Valve was hard at work on a new game engine. There were hints back in August that a new engine was in the works, but this latest bit of news is the first official confirmation of such.
The exchange also centered around when the engine might be rolled out, with Newell saying, “We’ve been working on Valve’s new engine stuff for a while, we’re probably just waiting for a game to roll it out with.”. Newell added that the game will likely be Ricochet 2, which apparently is code for Half-Life 3.
The numerous lines of code that referenced Source 2 suggested the new engine was in development and primed for inclusion within Filmmaker at a later date. The original Source engine originally debuted with Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2 in 2004.
