Today news broke that developer Robomod’s high-definition remake of Tony Hawk Pro-Skater has sold over 120,000 units in the first week of its availability on XBLA—signaling to publisher Activision that there’s some life left in the franchise yet. Robomodo CEO Josh Tsui said:
“By making [the remake] ‘lower risk’ we were allowed to take some chances, which benefits both developer and publisher…the prospect of a fuller game is definitely on the table—it’s just a matter of when and how.”
the PSN and PC versions of the game still yet to be released, Activision may see even more potential success with more Tony Hawks further down the line.
“I think for now Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD is a very good way to reacquaint people to the franchise. People are more apt to try games that are smaller and downloadable. Moving forward we’d have to see what our options are for a completely new experience, especially for any new platforms. But for now, downloadable games for a low price allow us great flexibility to try new things.”
