The sequel to wildly popular free-running iOS game Temple Run is heading to the App Store today. Best part is that it is free!
Temple Run took players on a jungle adventure as they attempted to escape from a horde of demonic monkeys with a stolen idol from a ancient temple. Players had to jump, dodge and duck under obstacles with swipes on the touch screen as they ran for their lives. The endless runner was downloaded more than 170 million times from Apple's App Store and Google Play since its 2011 release; 2.5 million of those downloads were on Christmas Day of 2012.
The new game is set in a new environment, where you can ride in mine carts and on zip lines, check out new powerups, and, according to the App Store description, be chased by an even bigger monkey. The visuals also look like they've received a significant bump in quality. Like the original, Temple Run 2 is free-to-play, but unfortunately there's no word on when it might be making its way to Android devices as well.

Temple Run 2 will be out on Android next week, according to Imangi co-founder Keith Shepherd. The Android version is "almost done" and will be available from Google Play and the Amazon Appstore at some point next week.
