Those crazy guys over at Valve have announced that they will be opening their ever successful flood gates and allow some software titles to make use of their ever popular Steamworks framework. Valve's Mark Richardson said:
The 40 million gamers frequenting Steam are interested in more than playing games, They have told us they would like to have more of their software on Steam, so this expansion is in response to those customer requests.
This move is a surprise twist, But one that is welcomed all the same many of the "creativity" and "productivity" software titles that will be offered on the digital distribution platform will take advantage of popular Steamworks features such as easy installation, automatic updating, and the ability to save your work to your personal Steam Cloud space.
The software are set to launch on Steam on September 5, and developers will be able to submit them via Steam Greenlight.
