New Borderlands 2 DLC - Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage

Gearbox has confirmed the name of Borderlands 2’s second downloadable content pack. As revealed by Gearbox’s Echo Casts Twitter account, the pack will be called Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage. The asked “Are you badass enough to survive ‘Mister Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage’? I’m legit curios cause I dunno you that well.”

Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage will launch on November 20th. The Campaign of Carnage offers new areas for players to explore, three new achievements, a new currency and plenty of new missions for players level 15 or higher, with enemies scaled to your level. The DLC revolves around a new vault discovered in Pandora, buried in the center of a large crater that will only open “once the champion of Pandora feeds it the blood of the ultimate coward.”.

Mr. Torgue is the owner and creator of the "Borderlands 2" Torgue weapon manufacturer, who produces firearms that shoot nothing but explosive rounds. Mr. Torgue himself is a loud character who screams inside the in-game radio commercials of “Borderlands 2”. In the new DLC, Mr. Torgue is asking players if they have what it takes to survive his challenge.

As Mr. Torgue describes the new vault, “we at the Torgue Corporation sincerely believe this is f*cking awesome -- so awesome that we're going to set up a tournament to find this number one badass”. That tournament takes place in an arena built around the Badass Crater of Badassitude where the vault is buried. You’ll need a sponsor to participate.

Like in Pirate’s Booty, enemies have been replaced by new versions related to the theme -- Marauders become bikers, Goliaths become Enforcers. Campaign of Carnage has plenty of new enemies to offer as well. The expansion includes multiple bosses, like Pyro Pete, Motor Mama and Badassaurus Rex (Seen in the image above).

There will be a new currency, unique vending machines spread throughout the Campaign of Carnage’s new areas will only accept Torgue Tokens, which you’ll have to scavenge from killed enemies. Each machine features a selection of badass Torgue guns and always offers a legendary weapon in the Item of the Day slot. Campaign of Carnage will also feature some familiar faces, including Tannis, Moxxi and even Tiny Tina, who Kester says has “her own thoughts about sponsorship.”.

While the introduction of another currency may initially appear to be an inconvenience, it's a welcome step that resets your current wealth and makes these new challenges and goals feel valuable - after all, most players will come into this DLC as virtual millionaires.

All these new arena-type battles are designed to be replayable - with tougher adversaries and less time to do them in - which constitute the bulk of the side-content in the expansion. While there appears to be fewer traditional side-quests in 'Mr Torgue's Campaign of Carnage', there will be some available. Examples include helping recall tainted bottles of beer delivered to citizens of the slums, and taking a game reviewer down a peg or two because he gave a game too low a score.

Like Pirate’s Booty, Campaign of Carnage will be available for $9.99, or as part of the $29.99 Season Pass that includes access to four Borderlands 2 expansions through June 2013.
