Both versions come with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which has proved itself as a fantastic tablet OS. Amazons Tag line for their new products is “Better, Faster, Cheaper” It is definitely all these things it’s boasting a new OMAP4470 processor which according amazons benchmarking tests out preforms the current tablet favourite Tegra 3. It takes all the strong points from the original Kindle Fire and improves on nearly everything from the look and feel to the display and speed of the devices.

The best thing is the price for both these devices. The Kindle Fire HD 7” will cost a mere €199 and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9” with the extra storage space and 4G data will cost €500 which is still cheaper than the apple equivalent. Amazon has also put its own twist on the tablets which includes X-Ray software which works with IMBD to give you real-time information about actors in films you are watching. There is also custom apps for Facebook and Skype, and an all new Email application that works with Exchange when you have to pretend you’re using your tablet for work.

These might not be the end of apple, but it is definitely a major step in the right direction.
